DTF File Upload Artwork Requirements

Prepare Your Artwork the Right Way — for the Best Possible Print Results

At Affordable DTF, we want your designs to print beautifully every single time. To make that happen, it’s important that your artwork files meet our DTF printing standards. Below you’ll find everything you need to know before uploading your files — from format and resolution to color setup and transparency.

Our goal is simple: make sure your design looks exactly how you imagined it — crisp, colorful, and ready to press.

1. Accepted File Formats

We accept the following file types for DTF printing:

  • PNG (Preferred) – Transparent background required

  • PDF – Flattened, high-resolution artwork

  • SVG – Vector files for logos or clean shapes

  • AI (Adobe Illustrator) – Outlined fonts, converted to curves

  • PSD (Photoshop) – Flattened layers preferred

  • JPG/JPEG – Accepted but not recommended (backgrounds can’t be transparent)

💡 Best choice: PNG files with transparent backgrounds always produce the sharpest, most accurate results.

2. Image Resolution (DPI)

To achieve professional-quality prints, all artwork must be at least 300 DPI (dots per inch) at the final print size.
Low-resolution images (under 150 DPI) may appear blurry, pixelated, or dull when printed.

Tip: If your design looks grainy or fuzzy when you zoom in, it’s likely too low-resolution for printing.

3. Background Requirements

  • Please remove all backgrounds from your design before uploading.

  • Only the parts you want printed should appear visible — everything else should be transparent.

  • Avoid using white or solid color backgrounds unless they’re part of your actual design.

If you’re not sure how to remove a background, you can email your file to affordabledtf@gmail.com, and we’ll assist you before printing.

4. Color Mode (RGB vs CMYK)

Our printers use CMYK color profiles, but you should design and upload your artwork in RGB mode for the best on-screen color accuracy.
We automatically convert to CMYK during printing to ensure colors remain bright and consistent.

Pro Tip: Avoid extremely bright neon or metallic shades, as these cannot be perfectly replicated in CMYK inks.

5. Artwork Size & Dimensions

Make sure your artwork matches the size of the DTF transfer you’re ordering.
For example:

  • 22" x 12" gang sheet → Your design should fit within 22x12 inches.

  • 22" x 60" gang sheet → Perfect for multiple logos or designs on one sheet.

If you’re unsure, we recommend placing your artwork inside a canvas that matches your sheet size before uploading.

6. Transparent vs. Opaque Areas

All transparent areas in your PNG will remain clear on the printed film (no ink printed).
Solid areas will print exactly as you see them.

If you want a white base layer beneath your colors (for better vibrancy on dark fabrics), don’t worry — our printer automatically applies a white underbase layer where needed.

7. Fonts & Text

If you’re uploading vector or layered files (like AI or PSD), please convert all text to outlines or rasterize your text layers before uploading.
This prevents font substitution or misalignment issues during printing.

If you’re not sure how to do this, send us your editable file — we’ll convert it safely for you.

8. Color Matching

While we always strive for accuracy, small variations may occur between your digital file and the final printed result.
To get the closest match possible:

  • Use standard RGB colors (no spot or Pantone inks)

  • Avoid using overly dark shadows or low-contrast gradients

  • Ensure your monitor brightness is properly calibrated

9. Gang Sheet Tips

A gang sheet allows you to combine multiple designs onto one film to save time and money.
When creating your gang sheet:

  • Leave at least 0.5 inches of spacing between designs

  • Keep all artwork within the sheet’s borders

  • Save as one flattened PNG file before uploading

We also offer a built-in gang sheet builder tool (coming soon) to make this process even easier!

10. Common Mistakes to Avoid

🚫 Uploading screenshots or photos of designs
🚫 Using low-quality or pixelated images
🚫 Forgetting to remove the background
🚫 Sending incorrect file sizes (too small or cropped)
🚫 Uploading files in Word or PowerPoint format (we cannot print these)
